PS2 audio cable is incompatible with computer?

– PS2 (3.5mm) audio cable
– phone
– Tascam recorder
– small desktop loudspeaker
– headphones
– Audacity

I connect the Tascam recorder to my computer sound card’s mic input.
Audacity can’t hear anything.
I plug headphones to the recorder. I can hear it.
I plug the recorder to the desktop loudspeaker with the same P2 cable.
The loudspeaker reproduces the sound.
So the recorder and the cable are OK.

So I connect my phone to the desktop loudspeaker with the same P2 cable and play some music.
The loudspeaker plays the music.
I plug my headphones to the phone. I can hear the music on the headphones.
I connect the phone to the computer’s mic input and play some music.
Audacity can’t hear anything.
In fact, the phone plays through its internal loudspeaker! As if no cable was connected.

So I connect the computer’s aux out to the desktop loudspeaker with the same P2 cable and play some music. (That’s my everyday setup actually.)
The loudspeaker plays the music. (Like it always has.)
I connect the computer’s aux out to the computer’s mic input with the same P2 cable and play some music on the computer.
Yes! Audacity hears and records it.

Why can’t I output from the phone or the recorder into the computer’s mic input?
